Project Description

From October 2010 to September 2011, a team of students from Imperial College London worked on the 2011 Project, which involved the construction of two rainwater harvesting systems for two educational institutions. During the academic year, the team researched and fundraised and during the summer months, they travelled to Tabora and successfully constructed the two systems, achieving their goals.

The 2011 team succeeded in achieving all the objectives set at the beginning of the preparation period. Two rainwater harvesting systems were constructed, giving safe water supply to the students of St. Mary’s Secondary School and of the Tabora campus of SAUT. Repair works were also carried out on older systems. Additionally, a maintenance manual in Swahili has been given to the beneficiaries of the two systems and a Raincatcher Tabora society has been started by the university students. The team also looked into future construction sites, making sure the project continues in future years.
